The longitudinal associations between self-rated health, binge drinking, and depression among Korean adults

Abstract

|
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to examine longitudinal associations between self-rated health, binge drinking, and depression among Korean adults.
Methods: Latent Growth Curve Modeling was performed with four waves(2014-2017) of data from the Korea Welfare Panel. The study subjects were adults from 19 to 64 years in 2014.
Results: The results were as follows. First, self-rated health and depression were decreased, while binge drinking were increased over time. Second, self-rated health were associated with baseline and trajectory of binge drinking and depression. Third, binge drinking was also proved to have significant mediating effects on the longitudinal relationship between self-rated health and depression.
Conclusions: Results from the present analyses emphasize that the need to reinforce binge drinking prevention and education to improve objective health perceptions.
